If you’re looking for the best drum & bass of 2016, look no further than UKF’s annual compilation
The ever prestigious UKF have recently released their annual drum & bass compilation, and man is it one for the books. 2016 has been an incredible year for drum & bass, and this compilation highlights some of the very best from the biggest names in the industry. Featuring original tracks from Dimension, Friction, The Prototypes and more, as well as remixes from Fred V & Grafix, Maduk, and the legendary Next Hype remix, the album is full of anthems from start to finish.
As always, with an album as impressive as this it’s near impossible to pick favourites, but we’ve chosen a few highlights that we felt needed sharing. First up is ‘Good To Me’, the soulful liquid tune from Brookes Brothers and Majesty. Although this track has been out for a while, it is definitely a personal favourite from 2016 that we feel is more than worth mentioning. The vocals are so emotive, delivering those passionate lyrics with a candor and sincerity that just can’t be beat.
While Brookes Brothers are known for creating such emotional music, this track goes above and beyond their already high standards and together with the young and talented Majesty, it’s not one to miss. Bringing a certain funk and soul into drum & bass, ‘Good To Me’ is an absolutely infectious tune that we still go wild for every time we hear it dropped.
Another massive tune off the album is ‘Transmission’ from the legendary duo The Prototypes. Not only is this one banging tune, but has the video to match. Nominated for an award at this year’s Drum&BassArena DnB Awards, if you haven’t checked this one out yet, you’re seriously missing out. Check out our review for this massive tune here.
2016 has also been an absolutely incredible year for Dimension, his tune ‘Automatik’ being another favourite of ours off the album. This tune has absolutely gone off live every time, and trust us when we saw we’ve heard it played out a fair few times already. With dreamy vocals that are packed full of emotion and an incredibly catchy chorus, this tune is guaranteed to be stuck in your head for days to come. Dimension always impresses us, but this release is perhaps a new high for the esteemed producer.
‘Automatik’ is bright and bouncy and begs the listener to sing along, whether in a crowd full of people or at home in the shower. The production on this one is flawless as always, and the energy can’t be beat! An instant classic, we know this one will continue being played out by all the biggest names for years to come.
And of course, perhaps one of the biggest tracks of 2016 is the absolutely massive remix of TC’s ‘Next Hype’ coming from Crissy Criss, Erb’n’Dub & Malux. Bringing together some of the biggest names in drum & bass, it’s no surprise this track has been so successful, and we still can’t get enough of it months later. Check out what we had to say about this track here!
Although we could definitely go on for ages about this entire compilation (every song is incredible and represents such a wide range of talent!) we’re going to end with our absolutely favourite, Hybrid Minds’ remix of Jome’s ‘Cinnamon’. Hybrid Minds have blown us away in 2016, earning 2 spots on this album (also check out ‘Touch’ feat. Tiffani Juno’).
‘Cinnamon’ is such an emotional, beautiful track, and their take on it is just incredible. Hybrid Minds are definitely known for creating emotive, liquid tunes, and have a fair few remixes under their belt as well (their bootleg of Daughter – Youth comes to mind as another all time favourite) but this one is really something special. The vocals are alluring and sweet, paired with gorgeous production that is absolute liquid gold. We can’t get enough of Hybrid Minds in 2016, and can’t wait to see what’s next from them in the New Year.
Be sure to check out the UKF Drum & Bass 2016 Megamix as well!
