The talented young producer from America returns with a stunning new 4-track EP for Hospital Records
The first track off the record, ‘Breathe’, features serene vocals and vibrant melodies that make for perfect summer listening. There’s an intensity and sincerity to the vocals that gives the track a real warmth, utilizing soft echoing effects throughout to serenade the listener.
Everything about the track is calming, the main lyric reminding us to just stop and ‘Breathe’. Elle Vee adds a charming, alluring element to the track, while Disco’s Over add their own flair to the tune for their Hospital debut. The production itself combines calming vibes with that signature Ownglow groove, giving us a sound that is simultaneously relaxing and energetic.
The second track, ‘Take Me’, is a collaboration with the incredibly talented Mitekiss. Both producers are known for bringing a distinctly soulful sound to drum & bass, so this collaboration could not be more perfect! With a gentle, twinkling into, the track builds up slowly, teasing distant vocals and delicate melodies.
Things erupt ninety seconds in into something slightly darker, reminding us of something S.P.Y might come up with. The oriental-inspired sounds from the intro are still present throughout, amidst a slightly grittier soundscape. Things calm down again halfway through, focusing once more on those oriental chimes and creating a really soothing feel.
Third on the album is ‘Mercy’, featuring Brighton based producer Dilemma and Arizonan vocalist Courtney Odom. Perhaps our favourite off the EP, this is a powerful track, bringing soulful, sultry vibes to drum & bass. The strong lead vocals complement both producers’ perfectly, giving us a flawlessly unique sound.
Passion and power ooze out of this one, making it one seriously catchy tune. The subtleties in the production, like the record scratch sound effect, give the track an impeccable flow from start to finish. Despite the prowess of Courtney Odom’s vocals, Ownglow & Dilemma’s production skills still shine through, making for one seriously impressive tune.
Finishing off the album strongly is ‘Glo-Mello-Flow’, a tune Ownglow wrote in about an hour and has been playing in his sets for the best part of a year now – we were definitely excited to see this one finally being released!
This track is the pinnacle of the young producer’s unique sound, combining retro, catchy vocals over an energetic and fluid drum & bass beat. The use of brass instruments throughout add that signature Ownglow groove, and the vocals add a fun, summery feel to it – the result is a tune you can’t help but sing & dance along to. It definitely is love this time!
With four insanely diverse tracks, Ownglow’s second EP has proven yet again why this young producer is a name to watch. Continually blowing us away with every release, Ownglow’s name has become synonymous with talent, and we can’t wait to see what he does next!
